AXEDALE residents want to expand and improve their town in coming years.
The Axedale – Our Town, Our Future group launched its three year plan on Saturday.
President Yvonne Wrigglesworth said the group hoped to rejuvenate the Campaspe River Reserve as well as create a major event to attract people to the area.
“We’re hoping to attract more visitors from around Victoria,” she said.
“We’ve already got a couple of annual events that occur.
“There are the Christmas carols, Australia Day event and market days. But it would be great to have something specific to Axedale.
“We need to brainstorm and workshop some ideas to find out what that might be.”
The group, which created the plan with support from the City of Greater Bendigo, hopes to complete the renewal of the Campaspe River by June 2014.
The document also aims to expand the town’s playground, improve traffic management and plan for future small business growth.
Councillor Rod Campbell said the group’s original plan from 2007 had been a success.
“They achieved everything from that,” he said.
“The place is just coming alive.
“Axedale is a really progressive little town. It’s humming at the moment.”
Cr Campbell said the development of the O’Keefe Rail Trail would also benefit the town.
Councillor Mark Weragoda attended the launch after riding on the trail.
“I think it will make a difference,” he said.
“You can see it’s a passionate community.
“It’s a plan that will work because they’re focusing on the community.”
