The Bendigo Region app, designed by the council’s tourism unit in conjunction with the Bendigo Tourism Board, includes the details of more than 250 key businesses in the region. The app also includes a regularly-updated events guide, plus information on everything from dining and shopping to where the closest toilet is.
It also includes interactive maps and allows users to book tickets online.
Council tourism marketing manager Glenn Harvey said the app offered a good picture of what is on offer in the region.
“It is for tourists and locals alike. Its immediacy is key,” he said.
“A lot of people want to find out what is happening right now when they are in town.”
Council city futures director Stan Liacos said current trends reflected the need for the app, with more than 25 per cent of traffic to the Bendigo Tourism website from tablets or smartphones.
“We are growing as a major town and we need to not only keep up to date, but lead the pack,” Mr Liacos said.
“This is an official app. It’s the first one that brings all this information together.”
The app is available for both iPhone and Android users and can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
