A CORONER has today found Echuca toddler Angela Bannister died of injuries inflicted by her mother and her mother's boyfriend.

Richard Wright recommended the case be investigated by the department of public prosecutions after he handed down his findings at the Coroners Court, which sat in Echuca, this afternoon.

Angela's father Bradley Bannister, who is not implicated in any way, was comforted by family and friends outside the court after the coroner's ruling.

Angela Bannister died on July 19, 2008, from internal haemorrhaging caused by a number of serious injuries including a broken pelvis and ribs.

The toddler, one month shy of her second birthday, also had a bite mark and was covered in bruising.

A 2011 inquest heard the tot had

Her mother Tania Walker and Tania's boyfriend Daniel Simmonds blamed a dog attack for some of the injuries.

But Mr Wright said today there was no evidence such an attack had ever occurred and it had no bearing on Angela's death.

More to come.
