P-plater crashes into Bendigo YMCA

A UTE smashed into the front wall of the Bendigo YMCA in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The impact caused the wall to buckle, pushing it into Bendigo YMCA chief executive Michael Bailey’s office desk.

The movement of the desk has then, in turn, caused damage to another wall within the building. A window was also smashed upon impact.

Mr Bailey is currently on annual leave but was alerted to the situation shortly after 1am yesterday.

“It was actually lucky I was on leave because it’s affected my office,” he said.

“And it was lucky it was that section of the wall and not during business hours because our reception area is just next to my office.”

Charges are pending against an 18-year-old Bendigo resident in relation to the incident.

Police are still investigating but say the man is likely to be charged with exceeding prescribed consumption of alcohol and careless driving.
