Call goes out for willing dragon legs

BENDIGO’S iconic Chinese dragon Sun Loong needs legs.

The Bendigo Chinese Association is seeking strong males over 16 years old to carry Sun Loong and other dragons at this year’s Easter Parade.

Other volunteers are also needed to carry the traditional Chinese banners and to escort the procession along the street during the event.

Dragon co-ordinator Doug Lougoon said that without volunteers it was impossible to manoeuvre the 100-metre-dragon and he urged people to get involved.

“The worst thing is having to worry about it the day before the event or on the actual day,” he said. “So we are hoping to get it all organised early.”

Mr Lougoon said it was a good experience to carry the dragon during the parade and some families made it part of their Easter tradition.

The Easter Gala Parade will take place on March 31 in Bendigo’s central business district.

Those interested in volunteering can drop into the Golden Dragon Museum during the day from 9.30am to 5pm or phone the museum on 5441 5044.
