The rate of littering being reported to the EPA has jumped by 43 per cent in the past two months after an anti-litter campaign was launched in Bendigo in January.

More than 3500 Victorians have lodged a litter report since the launch of the new campaign A cleaner Victoria is in your hands.

It comes as Parks Victoria highlighted Bendigo bushlands as areas of concern for dumping, prompting more patrols.

Goldfields district acting ranger in charge Leeza Wishart said she was glad community members were helping to manage the problem of illegal rubbish dumping in parks.

“Although rangers have stepped up patrols in the area we rely heavily on the community as another set of eyes and ears across the landscape,” she said.

“About 80 per cent of rubbish found dumped in parks in the Bendigo region has been reported to Parks Victoria by members of the public.”

Environment and Climate Change Minister Ryan Smith said the number of reports clearly indicated Victorians were sick of cleaning up after others.

in parks, with a description of the location and type 

of rubbish.
