THE Hargreaves Mall Red Dragon will be named Fun Loong.
Bendigo dragon Sun Loong inspired entrants in the Hargreaves Mall red dragon naming competition.
Five different entrants to the competition came up with the name, including five-year-old Mia Williams, 10-year-old Caitlin Buchan, 16-year-old Zoe Willis and adults Andrew Chittenden and Elizabeth Parry.
Caitlin said the Bendigo Easter parade inspired her. “I just came home from school one day and thought it was a good name, just like Sun Loong the dragon at the museum,” she said.
Mr Chittenden said he wanted something that was quintessentially Bendigo.
“A playground is designed to be fun, so my entry was a play on the name of iconic Bendigo dragon Sun Loong,” he said.
Bendigo mayor Lisa Ruffell thanked everyone who got involved with the competition, which attracted 198 entries.
