Photographic collaboration to promote cohesion in aged care

BENDIGO’S Stella Anderson Nursing Home is promoting the social inclusion of older residents through a new photographic display.

The project, Creating Memories, was recently unveiled and is a collaboration between Bendigo Health’s Carer Support Services, staff, residents and families of Gibson Street Complex and professional photographer Anthony Webster.

Residential Services director Marlene Connaughton said while the project was a lot of fun for all involved, there was a specific goal to accomplish.

“The aim of the project was to develop a set of photographs that promoted social inclusion of older residents,” she said.

“We did this by bringing the lives of the older residents into the community and promoting intergenerational exchange and understanding.

“This photographic record of some of our elderly citizens emphasises the character and distinction of ageing in a positive and uplifting way, focussing on the dignity and beauty of age.”
