THE first ever women’s Madison cycling carnival will grace Bendigo this weekend and women are invited to attend an exclusive Womeni.s.e function, held in conjunction with the sports event.
The trackside function, running from 6.30pm onwards, will include nibbles and bubbles for those wanting to get up-close to the action.
Organiser Wendy James said it was a unique event where women could support female athletes and cheer on the home team.
She said the men’s Madison event had been held for 42 years and now it was time for women to shine. “We are not feminists but we want to show that women can compete and have the opportunities that men have been given,” she said.
“This town, this event, could be the catalyst for initiating a female Olympic team.
“Bendigo is very unique – it might be something in the water – we have so many excellent cyclists and this is your chance to see them compete.”
