Kangaroo Flat Kmart has decked out its store in support of Bendigo Spirit because of a very personal connection with one of the players and coach.
Kmart customer service manager Margaret Foley is the aunty of Spirit captain Kristi Harrower and sister of coach Bernie Harrower.
Mrs Foley said both were very honoured the WNBL team would be playing a grand final in front of their home crowd.
“All their family will be there on the weekend cheering them on,” she said. “It’s a big honour for them to get into the grand final.”
Mrs Foley said she had been following Kristi’s career since she joined the Australian Institute of Sport.
“I think she holds playing a grand final in front of her home crowd very dearly to her heart,” she said.
“For her, it’s up there with the Olympics. She thinks so much of Bendigo and the Bendigo people.”
Mrs Foley said she was pleased Kmart had got behind the team.
“The business is supporting them wholeheartedly. It’s really great of them to get involved.”
