Gisborne substation to cater for growing demand

A NEW electrical substation will provide Gisborne with more reliable power, according to Energy and Resources Minister Michael O’Brien.

Mr O’Brien opened the $13.7 million substation in the town yesterday.

He said electrical demand was growing in the area and more than 7200 customers would use the service.

“Gisborne and its surrounding areas are rapidly growing,” he said. “Without this new substation, reliability would be affected and the growing demand from this region would in time overwhelm the network.”

He said Powercor had undertaken the project and it meant the supply would no longer travel through the Macedon Ranges.
