VOLUNTEERS are urgently needed for this year’s Bendigo Bank Bendigo Easter Festival.
Festival volunteer co-ordinator Andie Downing said while there had been about 12 volunteer registrations already, an extra 63 people were needed to assist with the annual event.
Vacant positions include balloon, carnival and festival information assistants, firework and twilight movie ushers, tin rattlers, spic and span attendants and craft activity assistants.
“This year we have a range of roles and they suit people of all ages and all abilities,” Ms Downing said.
“We are very flexible with our rostering and appreciate any amount of time that people can give.”
Chair of the Bendigo Easter Festival advisory board Rod Fyffe said volunteers formed an integral part of the festival.
“Without volunteers we just don’t run a festival and that is something that people just don’t realise,” he said.
“We have run for about 147 years continuously and we want to continue that, which means making sure there are enough people on the ground to help us deliver the festival.”
Mr Fyffe said Bendigo and the wider community should be proud of the festival, which runs from March 29 to April 1.
Ms Downing said people would be matched to positions depending on their skills and volunteers would attend a training day prior to the festival.
She said volunteer positions gave people the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals and to give back to the community.
A registration and information session is being held on March 5 from 11.30am to 12.30pm at the City of Greater Bendigo Myers street office.
