A BENDIGO senior constable has been released from hospital after allegedly being assaulted by two men.
The highway patrol officer was forced to use capsicum spray to restrain the two men last night.
Back-up police units were called to assist the officer in the incident at Wade Street, in Golden Square, at 8.10pm.
It's believed the officer pulled over a Holden Commodore car after it was caught allegedly doing burnouts.
When the officer stopped the vehicle and asked the driver to submit to a breath test he was allegedly punched through the window.
The two men, who are brothers, both continued to resist arrest outside the vehicle.
Police detained the men, aged 28 and 29, and they were interviewed and bailed early this morning.
Both have been charged with assaulting a police officer and assault causing injury.
They will appear at the Bendigo Magistrates Court on May 2.
Bendigo police said the officer has been released from hospital with minor injuries and is on a rest day.
