The 17-year-old Bendigo Senior Secondary College student yesterday spoke at the launch of headspace’s youth mental health service and official opening of Bendigo Youth Central.

Megan joined federal Minister for Mental Health Mark Butler and representatives from a host of organisations at “The Roof Top” at Bendigo Youth Central and headspace Bendigo, on the corner of Mundy and Hargreaves Streets.

People sought shade under umbrellas as the mercury soared but were eager to stick around and hear all about headspace Bendigo and what it had to offer.

Megan said her new role involved helping out with focus groups and spreading the word through social media.

“For a city that’s growing... it’s important to have places like this to go and to have more services out there,” she said.

Megan said mental health issues were one of the biggest challenges facing young people.

“Especially with the school pressures that are applied, particularly through VCE years and all the usual teenage bullying and friendship issues... it’s really important if people don’t have a supportive family at home, they need something else.”
