Darwin bombing to be remembered at Bendigo RSL

THE Darwin Defenders Bendigo committee will hold a commemoration service today to mark the anniversary of the 1942 bombing of Darwin.

This year is the 71st anniversary of the World War II bombing, which was the first attack on Australia by a foreign nation.

Veteran Bill Hosking said the Bendigo Darwin Defenders was created to commemorate the devastation the bombing caused and to remember the bravery of the people who defended Darwin.

The service will be held at the Bendigo District RSL in Havilah Road, starting at 9.30am.
