CITY of Greater Bendigo Building and Property Services manager Andy Walker said council officers will visit construction sites in coming weeks.
The council is reminding builders of their responsibility to keep their worksites clear of rubbish.
Mr Walker said the council would visit sites to ensure builders are aware of their obligations.
“The city welcomes the development of large housing estates such as Evergreen Waters and those at Epsom Huntly,” he said.
“But as a result there has been an increased amount of building waste blowing around Bendigo in the past 12 months, particularly in those areas.
“Builders must provide a skip or something similar on-site, as light-weight material such as building paper, insulation batts and large polystyrene waffle pods have been found some distance away from their original site.”
Council Local Law No. 11 regulates building sites and also monitors the provision of toilets for any on-site workers.
Mr Walker said officers will be issuing infringement notices where littering and general non-compliance to the Local Law is occurring.– JOSH FAGAN
