Mr Hanson, who has spent about 20 years working for gold mining companies, will be joined on the committee by professional consultant Nigel McGuckian and businesswoman Margaret O’Rourke.
He said the process would involve “soul searching and putting the mirror up” to the organisation, which was not always easy.
“I think the end result is we’ll be looking for workable recommendations,” he said.
“The idea is we have something that’s not just an ivory tower, it’s something that can be implemented, things that are workable.”
Mr Hanson said he had undertaken similar reviews with businesses.
“In other organisations sometimes we needed more staff, because there are more tasks to do, and sometimes less staff because the gold price was coming down or there was less ore to mine,” he said.
“Sometimes you need different skills, so you have to adjust skills.
“That might be training, that might be equipment, there’s a whole gamut of things that have to be looked at.” Mr Hanson said it was likely the changes would range from fine tuning to bigger recommendations and said it was up to the council to decide what was adopted.
“I hope we have a pretty solid impact,” he said.
Ms O’Rourke said she also had experience with reviews and Mr McGuckian said the result should be positive for the city.
“It’s a great opportunity for the city and its community,” he said. “It is a great opportunity for improvement and that’s what good businesses do.”
The review is scheduled for completion by the end of June.?
