ABOUT 300 people ushered in the Chinese New Year at Bendigo’s Dai Gum San precinct on Saturday night, marking the beginning of the Year of the Snake.
Golden Dragon Museum officer and member of the Bendigo Chinese Association Christine Slattery said the celebration was a success. “It went extremely well,” she said.
“The weather was a bit warm but a there was still a good crowd who turned out to the event.”
Ms Slattery said there were plenty of activities for the kids to enjoy, including face painting and an art workshop.
Entertainment included the Lion, Dragon and Plum Blossom dancing teams and there was a special performance by a local indigenous group.
New Year celebrations will continue in Bendigo with a Yum Cha luncheon on February 17, starting at midday, and on February 22 there will be an eight-course banquet from 6.30pm.
Both events will be held at the Golden Dragon Museum tearooms. To make a booking, contact the museum on 5441 5044.
