Former child soldier to speak at Rotary event

THE Rotary Club of Bendigo South will host a Connect to the Community event on Thursday, with David Nyual Vincent the guest of honour.

Mr Vincent who originally called Sudan home received a humanitarian visa in 2004, allowing him to resettle in Australia.

He will recount his story of how he came to Australia and of his tragic early life.

Mr Vincent, who is now involved with the Brotherhood of St Laurence, was the 2012 recipient of the People of Australia ambassadorship and has written a book titled The Boy Who Wouldn’t Die.

Rotary Club of Bendigo South president Wendy Learmount said Mr Vincent had an inspiring story to tell.

“Although his life started off quite tragic, it serves as a reminder to us just how lucky we are to live in a country like Australia, and how important service clubs such as Rotary International are,” she said.

The event will be held at the Foundry at 6pm.

Tickets are $28 and can be purchased from Gary Pinner on 5443 7188.
