BENDIGO East Swimming Club swimmers will have their techniques put under the microscope with their newly acquired SwimPro 4Cam.
The four underwater camera system was bought with money provided by the Strathfieldsaye and District Community Enterprise (SDCE) community grants program. Bendigo East Swimming Club president Graeme Symons said the new purchase would help develop children’s strokes.
“The teachers will be able to look at different angles and assess the kids’ swimming styles underwater,” he said.
“Before it was all done from above the ground (so this) will be a great improvement.”
The swimming club is one of 15 community groups in 2012 to share in the $40,000 SDCE grants program, including Strathfieldsaye Primary School’s Energy Breakthrough entry, Riding for the Disabled and multiple fire brigades across the region.
SDCE chairman Eddie Castle said organisers looked at how much the capital purchase would be used in the community.
“We look at how far it reaches and also what the educational benefits are,” he said.
“It’s great to see this equipment being put to such great use already. Hopefully Bendigo will become a hub for swimming.”
Mr Castle also made note of community partners Bendigo Bank and Bendigo Community Telco.
