The Rushworth man was the only occupant of the vehicle.
Police were called to the scene of the crash, near Old Leads Road, just before 9am.
Acting Sergeant John Atley, of Echuca police, said the cause of the crash was still being investigated.
“We’re unsure at this stage what factors have led to the crash,” he said.
“The man was driving along a bend and failed to take the turn, before he left the road and struck the tree.”
Echuca, Shepparton and Kyabram police attended the scene, along with SES and CFA crews. Traffic was temporarily blocked in both directions along Bendigo-Murchison Road.
An ambulance spokesman said the man died instantly in the crash.
Acting Sergeant Atley said it was unclear whether or not speed was a factor in the incident.
A report will be prepared for the coroner. ?
