Labor favourite to win Bendigo seat

THE Labor Party is the clear favourite to retain the seat of Bendigo in this year’s federal election, according to sportsbet.com.au.

The betting agency lists the ALP at $1.10 to win the seat and the Coalition at $5.50.

MP Steve Gibbons will retire this year having held the seat since 1998, leaving ALP candidate Lisa Chesters and Liberal candidate Greg Bickley to fight for the spot.

The ALP has held the seat for all but eight years since 1949.

The Coalition is the $1.35 favourite in the overall election winner market and Labor the $3.30 outsiders.

Three in every four bets taken since betting opened after the 2010 federal election has been for the Coalition, according to the betting agency.

Comment is being sought from the candidates.
