Australia will field a depleted batting order in its attempt to level its ODI series against Sri Lanka today due to captain Michael Clarke's withdrawal with an ankle injury.
George Bailey, playing his first home international match at Hobart's Blundstone Arena, will captain Australia in place of Clarke.
Clarke's absence is a result of him spraining his ankle during a fielding drill on Tuesday. His place in the team is expected to be taken by Victorian batting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who has been 12th man for Australia's past two matches.
Australia trails the five-match series 1:2. Should it fail to win it will be the second consecutive head-to-head ODI series against Sri Lanka in which it has been beaten at home, having lost a three-match series just before the 2010-11 Ashes.
The match will mark Mahela Jayawardene's 183rd and final match as captain of Sri Lanka. The 35-year-old will step down after this match and is expected to be succeeded by Sri Lanka's Twenty20 International captain, Angelo Mathews.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl against Australia in their fifth one-day international at Blundstone Arena today.
