Many need to stand up to save Golden Square pool

I am proud to be a member of the Golden Square community after the numbers of supporters of the swimming pool turn-out on January 21, 2013.

The meeting decided to form a new pool committee, but is required by law to give 21 days notice of such intent.

The meeting will be held on 18 February 2013 at the Golden Square Football Clubrooms at 7.30 pm.

There is a need to re-think “how and why” we are governed.

If the responsibility of government is to govern, many have abrogated their duty in the past decade: worshipping at the altar of modern economics and leaving money to rule instead.

The closure of the pool is purely about finances and not about people or constituents.

Councillors, like some politicians, often seem to exist with the sole purpose of being elected to power, and the first principle of representing their constituents is forgotten.

A comparative analysis of the pool, art centre and gallery shows the subsidy per attendee by council as being in favor of the pool.

The citizens of Golden Square need to take control of their pool and to this end it will need the support of all residents, schools, business and other sporting organisations in Golden Square.

Be proud to be local, support your pool and facilities in your local community for your children’s future.

We will have the support of the mayor and other councillors, if we get the pool committee operating and control the future of this facility.

Thanks to all those people and businesses that have given financial and moral support to those fighting to retain the pool.
