Chase Fraser was taken into custody yesterday afternoon by Bendigo police and charged with intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury and assault with a weapon after the incident in O’Neill Street.
It is alleged Mr Fraser stabbed the 38-year-old at the back of the man’s residence just before 1am yesterday.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said paramedics were called to the scene at 12.42am and took the victim to Bendigo Health.
A Bendigo Health spokesman confirmed the man was in a stable condition.
Detective Sergeant Mick Logan said Mr Fraser knew the victim, who assisted police with the investigation.
“Certainly the parties are known by each other and I’m sure the details will come out in court,” he said.
Surrounding neighbours said they did not hear anything around the time of the incident.
One next door neighbour said she had never experienced anything like it in the many years she had lived there.
“I’ve lived here for 21 years and it’s normally very quiet around here,” she said.
“It’s a really good neighbourhood. We’ve never had anything like this.”
The woman said she was surprised that something of this nature had happened next door, which she believed was a family home.
“It’s a bit of a shock to have something like this happen so close,” she said.
Mr Fraser has been remanded to appear at the Bendigo Magistrates Court for a committal hearing on April 11.
