HEALTH Minister David Davis is in Bendigo today, but few people seem to know why he’s visiting.
A spokesperson for the minister said he had a series of meetings regarding recent federal government hospital funding cuts, but wouldn’t say who the meetings were with.
Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan said she understood Mr Davis was meeting with the chairs of Loddon Mallee health boards and said he should answer questions about delays to the new hospital while he was in Bendigo.
“The minister should not expect to sneak in and out of Bendigo without fronting up to the local community,” she said.
“There are serious concerns about the way he has completely bungled the tender for Bendigo’s most important building project.”
Ms Allan said Mr Davis needed to say why work on the hospital had not started, why the project was included under the new building code after the tender process started and asked when the project would start.
Ms Allan also asked Mr Davis to guarantee the project would be finished in 2016 as planned.
