THE Save Our Golden Square Pool group is concerned more pools will be closed if extra money is not spent on Bendigo pools.
Group organiser Ken Hamilton said the group was concerned with the amount of letters written in to the Bendigo Advertiser recently with complaints of slime and damage to a dive board at Brennan Park Swimming Pool and a broken shade cloth at Kangaroo Flat Swimming Pool.
“The pools are being neglected,” Mr Hamilton said. “(City of Greater Bendigo) council haven’t put enough in their budget for general maintenance.”
Mr Hamilton said unclean or broken facilities could put people off visiting the pools, leading to their closure.
Golden Square and Long Gully pools were closed this summer by the council due to a lack of patronage and ageing facilities.
“It’s definitely a concern if they’re not looked after,” Mr Hamilton said.
A representative from the City of Greater Bendigo Council was unavailable for comment.
