Bendigo’s Josh Savage will play a key role officiating in the jumps events at Olympic Park.
The Sydney gig follows officiating at last year’s Australian All Schools championships in Hobart.
“This festival will be one of the biggest athletics events I have gone to,” Savage said last night.
In the past three years, Savage has taken on various roles at track and field meets.
He has racked up plenty of hours officiating, and also competing in walks and some of the distance runs at Athletics Bendigo competitions at the La Trobe University Bendigo athletics complex in Flora Hill.
“A couple of seasons ago I started helping with recording at jumps events and helping out where I could,” Savage said of his voluntary role.
“Peter Barrett (long-time athletics coach and official) has really helped me a lot, as have a lot of other AV and Athletics Bendigo officials.”
The 17-year-old first competed in little athletics more than a decade ago.
“To officiate at Olympics, Commonwealth Games or world championships is a goal,” Savage said.
