MARK Laidlaw first experienced sailing at Bendigo Yacht Club’s Discover Sailing day at Lake Eppalock yesterday.
“It is good opportunity to try it without having to go out and buy a boat and all of the equipment,” he said.
“Although my kids are older I think it would be a good activity for the family to get involved in.”
Mr Laidlaw said he enjoyed the experience and would consider taking a few training sessions with the club before deciding whether to purchase a boat.
He said he particularly enjoyed sailing the catamarans.
“They are pretty exhilarating. It doesn’t take much for the wind to really get it moving,” he said.
Bendigo Yacht Club commodore Margaret Grant said the day had been a success.
“We had quite a lot of families come through and we had some join up with the club, so I think people really enjoyed it,” she said.
Ms Grant said the club had something to offer everyone.
“Some come because they just want to race, others just want to race for fun and some just want to cruise,” she said.
More than 20 yacht clubs around the state hosted a Discover Sailing day, an initiative that gives people the chance to experience the sport.
