I refer to Jack Kelly’s letter “Common sense needed to keep pool open” in Wednesday’s Bendigo Advertiser.

Mr Kelly has a valid point in all areas.
It’s sheer madness to close a community pool at any time, but to close one when a school is being built next door – well, words can’t describe the utter stupidity in doing so. The same thing happened in Mount Alexander Shire, at Campbells Creek.
Those in their wisdom closed the local pool, which was right across the road from not one, but two schools.
Fight for your local pool like the good people of Chewton did when faced with closure.
Learn-to-swim lessons and water safety all start with local pools.
You will find that within the council there are those who find no glory in keeping local pools open.
They would rather spend ratepayers’ money on high-profile projects, thus lifting their own profiles. Need I say more?
Your mall in Bendigo, for example, is wasted space.
Good luck, Mr Kelly.

Chewton
