The RSPCA is hoping to find permanent homes for a few of its felines as part of a free cat adoption drive.
Adoption fees for adult cats at the Bendigo RSPCA shelter will be waived until Sunday.
Animal attendant Sam Exelby said the Bendigo shelter was at capacity, with about 40 cats needing homes.
“After Christmas we get a lot of people surrendering their pets,” he said. “We’re incredibly full up at the moment.”
Mr Exelby said anyone with a caring nature would make a good cat owner.
“You just need to know the basic info of how to care for a cat, and you need to be sure you can give it a forever home,” he said.
The Bendigo RSPCA shelter will be open for cat adoptions from 10am to 4pm today and tomorrow, and from 10am to 12pm on Sunday.
All RSPCA cats are micro-
chipped and desexed. People looking to adopt a cat will be given advice from RSPCA adoption officers who will help match the right cat to the right owner.
