PLANS for commercial flights between Bendigo and Melbourne are progressing.
Principal consultant Neil Hansford said twice-daily flights could be running from Bendigo Airport by April.
The service would look to expand into other cities depending on its success and runway upgrades.
Gold Air general manager Marcel Nolet said it had taken four years of planning to reach this point.
“We’ve basically got everything in place,” he said.
“We’ve done a lot of research, we’ve talked to the general public and major businesses and the answer is ‘yes’, there’s a definite need for this service.
“We want to make sure this is a long term operation, not a fly-by-night operation.”
Bendigo Business Council executive officer Patrick Falconer said the service would help grow the city and bring new companies to town.
