Edward Street car park leaves couple confused

THE Edward Street car park has been criticised for a lack of signs, with one couple saying they were bamboozled by the lack of directions on how to get out.

Bron and Rob Nelson have called for more signs to go up inside the car park, instructing people on where to pay.

The couple, who parked in the car park for the first time on Monday, said they were confused by the payment method.

“It took us a while to figure out,” Mr Nelson said.

“There’s instructions to pay at the foyer, but there is no foyer in Queen Street.

“The foyer is around another corner and along Edward Street.

“There are no signs to indicate which street the pay station is in.”

Mrs Nelson said she was impressed with the car park but thought it needed more signs.

“I think it was designed by the same people that made Myki tickets... if you’re going to the theatre then you walk out that exit – there’s no clear signs saying where to go to put your ticket,” she said.

The $15 million multi-storey car park was opened in July 2012 and reached an occupancy rate of above 50 per cent for December, up from 21 per cent of capacity in its first month.

A City of Greater Bendigo spokesman said a lot of time and effort had gone into planning internal signs at the car park.

He said the council was not aware of any other concerns that had been raised in relation to signs at the car park, but would consider any matters that were brought to its attention.
