The fire started next to the railway line and burnt about four acres of a private paddock in Muckleford-Walmer Road.
Walmer CFA captain Jason Williams said a firefighting helicopter was called in to help 12 fire trucks put out the blaze just after 1.30pm. He said the sparks were believed to have come from a steam train travelling from Maldon to Castlemaine.
A volunteer firefighter on her way to the scene injured her back when her fire truck drove over a pothole.
An ambulance spokesman said the 51-year-old woman was taken to Castlemaine Hospital in a stable condition.
Also yesterday, CFA crews battled a five-hectare blaze in Springfield, in the Macedon Ranges. The fire took 40 minutes to control and CFA crews were still mopping up at the scene last night. The causes of both fires will be further investigated today.
