The Kilsyth man was charged with intentionally causing injury and affray on Wednesday afternoon. He was bailed by police to appear in Melbourne Magistrates' Court on February 20.

The charges relate to the ongoing investigation into the death of David Cassai, 22, from Templestowe on Monday.

Mr Cassai was staying with friends at his parents' holiday house on the Mornington Peninsula. At about 1am on Monday he and five friends where involved in an altercation with another five men outside a pizza shop in Rye.

He was allegedly punched, fell and struck his head on the footpath. He died from his injuries in the Alfred Hospital at about 4pm that day.

A 23-year-old from Warranwood was also taken to Frankston hospital with a suspected broken jaw following the incident. He was later discharged.

Homicide squad detectives initially arrested a 20-year-old Kilsyth man and a 22-year-old Yarra Junction man, later releasing them without charge.

Police also arrested an 18-year-old man from Millgrove on Wednesday morning. He is assisting police with inquiries.
