IT was a family affair at Castlemaine’s Camp Reserve, as casual revellers enjoyed bringing in the New Year in deck chairs and on picnic rugs.
Many families from the area descended on the oval to watch the firework display at 9.30pm and midnight.
Judy Stephens and her family had been attending the event for the past four years and said it was a great environment for children.
“We come for the family. It’s good for the kids,” she said.
Malmsbury’s Judy Yannopoulos and husband George have also been attending the event since it began.
Mrs Yannopoulos said said she enjoyed the casual atmosphere.
“It’s relaxing and safe. There’s plenty of space for the kids to play.”
But she said numbers were down last year, noting the disappearance of a band and children’s entertainment as for the disappointing turnout.
