That’s what Bendigo couple Nicole Beckman and Adam Willis did yesterday.
The pair wed in front of more than 100 family and friends in an elegant ceremony at the groom’s father’s home in Ascot.
The bride said she wanted to have a party to celebrate the momentous occasion.
“It started off sitting around the table talking about when we would like to get married,” she said.
“Then we thought, how good would it be to bring in the new year as husband and wife?”
Nicole said the wedding was everything she imagined.
“I married my first love, he is the love of my life,” she said.
“And my daughter Alex was a part of the wedding.
“She is a big part of our life and our family so to celebrate the day with her meant a lot.”
The pair first met in high school and dated for a year.
“We then parted ways and 16 years later we met up again via Facebook,” Adam said.
“We started chatting and Nic came up to Bendigo and she realised then that she missed me immensely, and the rest is history.”
The newlyweds will spend their honeymoon in Hepburn Springs.
