Brother and sister Ron Robinson and Bev Holder have been camping regularly along Campaspe River near Elmore for the past seven years.
Like hundreds of others camping along the river, they bring their children and grandchildren to the idyllic setting at Christmas and New Year’s.
Ms Holder, from Lara, said it was a perfect holiday place for families looking for a simple way to spend the festive season.
“It’s quiet and close to amenities. The whole atmosphere of the place is wonderful,” she said. “There’s lots of wildlife and birdlife, and it’s the best thing to be at a spot near water.”
Ms Holder said her two grandchildren loved the waterside location.
“They come here every year and enjoy it,” she said. “We always say it’s great for them to be away from the computers and television and have an outdoor holiday.”
Ms Holder said there was a real sense of community around the reserve.
“There are people that come back year after year.”
