Fires keep CFA crews busy

A LAWN mower and a truck tyre are believed to be the cause of two separate fires in the region today.

In Marong a small blaze was started after a tyre fell off a truck around 2pm. Approximately half a hectare was burnt by the fire on the Calder Alternate Highway.

It's believed the truck driver was unaware he had lost a tyre.

Around lunch time a small grass fire was extinguished by CFA crews at Sullivans Road, Strathfieldsaye.

A lawn mower is believed to have sparked the fire, which was no threat to property or residents.

Meanwhile, fire crews have battled a medium-sized fire on Triangle Road near Newbridge.

As Bendigo heads for a top of 32 degrees the CFA has declared a fire danger rating of high.

Central and north central Victoria and the Mallee region have a fire danger rating of very high today.
