Wild wind to batter parts of Victoria

THE Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning with 60 kilometre winds to batter central and northern Victoria.

Damaging winds with peak gusts of 90 to 100 kilometre per hour were forecast for Monday morning, as well as thunderstorms in the early afternoon.

Bendigo was heading for a top of 32 degrees.

The State Emergency Service advised people to move their vehicles under cover or away from trees and to keep clear of fallen power lines.

The SES also recommended residents secure or put away loose items around the house, yard and balcony.

Santa will have a comfortable flight into Bendigo with the mercury tipped to drop to 12 degrees overnight.

For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
