The lights were dusted off in October as Mr Scanlon got to work putting the setup together.
“My three-year-old son helped me with some of it, he loves it,” he said.
“It’s a lot of fun having the lights set up, every night there’re kids that come and look.”
He said he had been putting the lights up for the past four years and entered the competition this year for the first time.
Lucky reader prize winner Briohny Mitchell said she and her family had gone to see a lot of the Christmas lights around Bendigo. Both won a $500 gift card courtesy of Hume and Iser.
For Briohny, it was the second stroke of luck in a week, after winning a wheelbarrow full of Christmas treats at the White Hills Bowls Club raffle.
“Mum entered me in the Christmas lights competition and dad sold me a ticket to the raffle,” she said.
“I’d never won anything until this week.”
Mr Scanlon’s house at 8 Findon Court, Epsom, received the most votes to be awarded the most popular decorated house by Bendigo Advertiser readers.
