The tragic death of Garry Angus must surely be raising some serious issues within our mental health services. Surely I am not the only person wondering why a known sufferer of paranoid schizophrenia for over 20 years is actually left to self-medicate.

When are we going to get real about the psychotic effects of drugs and alcohol and the lack of proper long-term rehabilitation for those who are caught up within the insidious cycle of the instant fix of prescription drugs? While in no way condoning the behaviour of the perpetrator, he is also a victim of a seriously flawed system, as is his family.
The Angus family deserves some answers and the people of Bendigo need a better system.
