Volunteers are an important part of any regional community, from umpiring local sporting matches to delivering meals on wheels and running the op shop.
The contribution of approximately 500,000 regional Victorians who volunteer cannot be overlooked, but it’s often the same people who repeatedly put up their hand to help out.
December 5 was International Volunteer Day and I encourage Bendigo residents to consider how they might be able to offer a helping hand in their community.
“Celebrate Volunteering” is the theme for this year’s event and there would be no better way to do that than getting actively involved in a worthy charity or cause.
