The tail wagged on Saturday as the last three wickets combined to put on 71 runs after Golden Square had one stage been 7-107.
A knock of 22 from Jamie Bysouth and 28 n.o. from Darren Clutton led the Square revival, while No.11 James Pietromonaco made a valuable eight in a 30-run partnership with Clutton for the last wicket.
Huntly-North Epsom bowler Sam Johnston would have slept well Saturday night after a marathon spell.
Johnston bowled unchanged all innings, sending down 42 overs, including 14 maidens, and taking 4-84.
The other six wickets were shared between Brett Elvey (2-18), Matt Rule (2-26) and captain Linc McRae (2-36).
Golden Square had been solidly placed early in its innings at 1-57 in the 34th over.
However, the dismissal of opener Max Grant (28 off 87) sparked a collapse in which Square lost 5-24 to crash to 6-81 17 overs later.
Scott Johnson passed 50 for the fourth time in seven innings this season, making 53 off 169 balls (four fours), before he was trapped lbw trying to sweep McRae.
● Anthony West made 132 in Eaglehawk’s score of 9-322 against White Hills at Canterbury Park.
Batting at No.3, West didn’t have to wait long to start his innings.
The Hawks’ innings got off to a disastrous start when – not for the first time – Matt Fitt was dismissed on the first ball of the match.
Fitt didn’t offer a shot to a Travis Colley delivery and was bowled.
Coming in on the second ball of the day, West batted until the 70th over and faced 204 balls in what was his second first XI century.
West – who hit 10 boundaries in his 229-minute stay at the crease – was the fifth wicket to fall with the score on 245.
His innings included a 142-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Matt White (72 off 136, eight fours, one six).
The Hawks also had handy contributions from Sam Walker (37 n.o.), acting captain Cory Jacobs (22) and Jake Wright (16 n.o.).
Colley claimed 5-99 off 26 overs for the Demons and Gavin Bowles (3-35) took three wickets, including the scalp of West.
Demons captain Aaron Monro had a good day in the field, taking three catches.
● Strathdale-Maristians’ opener Cameron Taylor is getting back to the form that won last year’s BDCA Cricketer of the Year Award after he made 127 against Strathfieldsaye at Bell Oval.
Taylor’s 127 – his second first XI century for the Suns – was the backbone of the Suns’ 6-331.
The left-hander belted 12 boundaries and a six and faced 207 balls before he was bowled by Ben Gunn in the 73rd over.
Round six is proving to be a successful one for Taylor. He also scored a century in round six last season against White Hills.
Taylor and Travis King (41 off 122) got the Suns off to a solid start with a 103-run partnership for the first wicket, while Jono Davidson (30 off 79), Dom Taylor (40 off 34) and captain Linton Jacobs (42 off 31) kept the runs ticking over.
And Ben DeAraugo made a quickfire 22 not out off nine balls late in the day.
Skipper Gunn (2-42) and Ben Devanny (2-72) took two wickets each for the Jets.
● Bendigo scored 9-208 against Sandhurst at J.L. Weeroona Oval before declaring.
Captain Marcus McKern top-scored for the Goers, making an entertaining 52 off 56, which included 42 runs scored in boundaries.
Scott Dole (29 n.o.), Nathan Fitzpatrick (31) and Alex Pearson (29) all made runs in the bottom half of the order for the Goers.
The Sandhurst side included Rhys Smith (0-43) and Ned Slater (2-15) making their debuts.
On just his second ball, Slater already had his first wicket in the first XI when he dismissed Glenn Franzi (9), while he also dismissed Mark Ryan (13).
The returning Quinton Bentley (3-27) and Elias Bowe (3-50) took three wickets apiece.
At stumps after facing 15 overs, Sandhurst was 1-54.
Having made scores of 62, 54 and 108 in his previous three innings, Andrew Bourne is the batsman out for nine, having been caught behind off Ryan.
