Mr Stephens has pledged one burpee for each dollar he raises up to his target of $5000.
A burpee is an exercise performed in four steps with the person beginning in standing position, dropping into a squat position with their hands on the ground, extending their feet back into the front plank position, returning to the squat position then returning to standing position.
The current record for most burpees in 24 hours is about 3000.
To reach 5000 burpees in 24 hours he would have to complete an average of seven every two minutes. But he said the pain would be worth it.
“What I would have to go through is nothing compared to what someone diagnosed with prostate cancer, or any type of cancer, would face,” he said.
“It’s like our motto here at the gym – what you once feared you must embrace.”
Mr Stephen’s dad Andrew was recently diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer.
“He was the type of country bloke who knew he had the symptoms for a long time but didn’t want to go in,” Mr Stephens said.
“He was uncomfortable with the idea of a checkup; he didn’t know how easy it was now just with a blood test and a quick exam.”
Not catching the cancer early meant Andrew more than halved his survival rate.
“It’s really affected him,” Mr Stephens said.
Mr Stephens will attempt what could be a record-breaking feat at his Bendigo gym on Friday from 1pm.
Donations can be made at http://mobro.co/kimstevens and every dollar raised by midday Friday will be added to the burpee total.
