Sergeant Robert Walsh said the East Bendigo resident allegedly discovered two men in his shed about 4.30am.
“One was arrested by the victim,” Sergeant Walsh said.
“It was really good work.”
Sergeant Walsh said the man had heard the alleged offenders – an 18-year-old man and a 30-year-old man – and decided to investigate.
“One was trying to remove a pushbike from his shed,” Sergeant Walsh said.
It is believed the property owner managed to grab hold of one of the alleged offenders and then waited for police to arrive.
“We believe the men were involved with two thefts from motor vehicles in the same area and an attempted theft of a motor vehicle, also in the same area,” Sergeant Walsh said.
“It was around the Havlin Street area.
“So it was excellent work by the victim of the premises.”
