The Little Eagles play group is an initiative of the Sandhurst Extended School Hub which is aimed at providing a venue for young families to come together.
Volunteer Annette Engstrom said the group was not child care and that adults were required to supervise their children, but planned activities helped to take the pressure off parents.
“A co-ordinator plans the weekly activities and leads the play, songs and stories so there is no pressure on parents to feel they have to come up with ideas, though they are welcome to do so if they wish,” she said.
Ms Engstrom said the play group was open to all pre-school- age children, saying they are never too young to socialise with others. “It is helpful in getting children school-ready as they absorb new concepts such as listening, sharing, waiting their turn and moving from one activity to another,” she said.
“It also gives parents an opportunity to meet other parents and perhaps get some new play ideas for home.”
