The Queen Street eatery was awarded the 2012 best restaurant in Victoria title and was a finalist in the best chef category.

Mr Anthony said he and wife Sonia were very honoured to receive the award.

“We were very surprised.

“We weren’t expecting to win; we were just there to support and represent Bendigo. 

“There were a lot of great restaurants up for the award and it was a great thrill.”

Mr Anthony said it was a win for the whole of Bendigo’s epicure scene.

“This is building the food reputation of Bendigo,” he said. 

“It offers more exposure after the Grace Kelly exhibition and other great things that have happened in Bendigo this year. 

“It’s another feather in Bendigo’s cap, really.”

Mr Anthony said he was particularly pleased with the win because it took into account everything, from staff to ambience and decor.

“It’s about the whole package. It’s awarded for all the small things.”

He thanked his staff and the producers that supply Masons with their local produce. 

“There are many things that contribute to our success. The wine and food producers Bendigo has at this time are wonderful.

“We are very proud to be from this city – this is a win for Bendigo.”
