Palin's no loser with '$11m book deal'

She won't be Vice President but Sarah Palin stands to cash in on her tilt for high office, with multi-million contracts for books and talk shows appearances expected to come her way.

Literary agents were queuing up to sign Palin to a book deal that could earn her up to $US7 million, The Times reported.

The recent election campaign was sure to result in hundreds of books by journalists and politicians, but "Palin's personal account of her tumultuous introduction to national politics" would be the most lucrative story, it said.

"Every publisher and a lot of literary agents have been going after her," said Jeff Klein of Folio Literary management.

"She's poised to make a ton of money," public relations expert Howard Rubenstein said.

A spokesman for publisher Random House told the New York Post: "There are several of our imprints who are eager to talk to Governor Palin. She clearly has a constituency and we know books by conservatively-centred politicos usually sell very, very well."

It was not yet known what sort of deals a Palin book could attract, but the contract was sure to be compared to a deal signed by comedian Tina Fey, who played Palin in a series of spoofs on Saturday Night Live, a publishing source told The Post.

"That's an interesting question because everybody will compare what she gets to the book deal Tina Fey reportedly made - $6 million," the source said. "No matter what it is, the betting is she'll sign a deal by the end of the month."

But books weren't Palin's only opportunity to cash-in, with commentary spots on Fox and CNN also a possibility, The Post said.

Linda Mann, of Mann Media, told the paper: "Her buzz is incredible. She has car-wreck appeal. You're compelled to watch, hoping she'll say the dumbest things possible. I'd propose a show combining her love of fashion and lack of brainpower - 'Project Dumbway'."

However, Mr Rubenstein warned Palin against blindly chasing the cash.

"She ought to keep an eye on what her goals are for 2012. If she plays a game and looks foolish, if she sounds like she doesn't know what she's talking about - like saying Africa is a country - she may talk herself out of a political job," he said.

After her well-publicised campaign, Palin was now in a similar position to that of President-elect Barack Obama in 2004, a "mostly unknown Chicago politician" who found himself in the spotlight after "a mesmerising speech to the Democratic convention", his election to the Senate and the launch of his book, 'The Audacity of Hope', The Times said.

Palin was now a likely candidate for the Senate seat representing Alaska, the paper said.

Does Palin know now how to put sentence together? I am afraid that her book will be leading our young generation to "sentence to nowhere". Stop it.

Palin's book would definitely be a hit! I'm betting that she would make much more than 7 million. She is so admired, and it's a shame that so many bought into all those lies about her that to this day are still being repeated by people who know they aren't true. That's a testiment to how threatened people are by her. Good!

I hear the title is going to be "The Audacity Of a Dope".

Wow, a book about Sarah Palin, sounds like firewood to me!

She'll have to give up her day job, Alaska law forbids an outside job. Oh I forgot she already has one they didn't disclose they are part owners of a Wasilla car wash. I would be interested in reading a book by her handlers, Wasilla hillbillies what a hoot! At least that would more likely to be truthful. Everything that comes out of her mouth is either nonsense or a lie.

I can't imagine anyone being bored enough to buy, then read a Sarah Palin book. Is this a joke??

So many people are threatened by Sarah Palin but not by Joe Biden? The Joe Biden that asks crippled people to stand up? The Joe Biden that introduces Barack Obama as Barack America, even as Obama sits next to him? The Joe Biden that guarantees an international crisis with an Obama administration? The Joe Biden that reporters likened to a "shrink-wrapped candidate" as well as the term late in the election of "Hidin' Biden?" And yet you are so worried about a mom with several kids who worked her way from PTA to City Council to Mayor to Governor of Alaska. Yep, that takes a total dolt to accomplish that much and advance that far. What's the matter? Does a successful woman intimidate you that much?

I'm not sure where you are, Max, but here in the capital city of Alaska (where Sarah chooses NOT to spend any more time than necessary) we are embarrassed by our so-called Governor.

Listening to Sarah Palin's pseudo intelligent critics slam her is getting really boring. Of all the candidates running for political offces none could match her executive and governance talents and experiences, and indeed qualifications to one day run for President..Receiving offers for as much as $11 million for a book deal should suggest to her critics to stick to their day jobs.Gingrich, a wannabe teacher should look at his own dismal failure before passing on Palin's ability to lead her party and one day running for President and what do these lost look for in a President? How much more was Obama qualified than Palin, Or Reagan, the actor, Jimmy Carter the peanut farmer and Harry Truman, the haberdasher? As the saying goes ''Of all the cants which are canted in this canting world, though the cant of hypocrites may be the worst, basless criticism is the most used by tormented souls''....
