The following is a letter from “The Spirit of Bendigo”, (known affectionately or should it be termed “a commercial publicity stunt” as Addy).
Dear editor,
While I seemingly enjoy the somewhat lavish attention/publicity being heaped upon me, I do nevertheless have one rather important question to which I seek an answer; What is my fate when my racing days are over?
Will I enjoy the ranks of the approximately 18,000 horses per annum of all types (gallopers, trotters, pacers, hacks, etc) who end their days in the knackery?
Where is my home when I can no longer race?
I would appreciate a publicised hard print response to this legitimate query in your editorial page. I await with eagerness the same.
Dr JENNIFER O’SHANNESSY,
